On January 29, 2024, Hind Recep and five members of her family were attempting to flee the genocide in Gaza to a so-called safe zone declared by the Israeli Occupation Forces when their vehicle was attacked by Israeli soldiers. Her entire family was shot and killed. Hind’s 15-year-old cousin Layan, who was injured in the vehicle, called the Palestinian Red Crescent for help. Gunshots were heard during the phone call, and Layan’s voice was cut off. Layan had also been martyred by the Zionist forces.

After Layan, the voice of 6-year-old Hind reached the Palestinian Red Crescent on the phone. The terrified little girl begged for help, saying her family had been killed and she was alone. In response to this desperate call, the Red Crescent sent two paramedics (Yusuf el-Zaino and Ahmed el-Madhoum) to the scene to rescue Hind. However, shortly after the ambulance set off, the paramedics reported hearing tank sounds, and all contact with them was lost. The ambulance had been shot by Zionist soldiers, and the aid workers had been martyred.

After this horrific incident was reported by many news outlets, Hind became a symbol of the atrocities committed by Israel in Palestinian territories.

Let us unite our voices to stop Zionism.
